We live 2 miles from Cates. They "coupon" us all the time. We never remember to go when the coupons are still good...but it doesn't matter. This place is not expensive for a steak place and it's just plain good. Cate's is a small, local place. The dining room's not much bigger than the average family room. 20 people in there is a crowd! The wait staff easily handles this room. We've never waited. We've always been quickly and pleasantly served. We've always gotten free soup just for stopping in and ordering anything. The food is cooked to order and - if it's not to your liking - it's wisked right back to the kitchen. That's not to say that we've had that problem much...one over cooked cowboy steak one time in many trips. The staff accomodates substitutions and special requests very willingly. They are accomodating in other ways too: One hot summer night, when stopping in for a steak (because they were grilling outside and attracting a crowd with the smell) we decided we were in a "steak and a beer" mood and went on in. We found out then that Cate's does not have a liquor license. No matter the server told us. She said we were welcome to bring our own and they would be happy to pour. I went next door to a conveinence store, bought beer that we like...for less for a six than any restaurant would charge anyway...and brought it back. We were given glasses for the first two and the rest of our six was stowed in the kitchen fridge to stay cold at the servers suggestion. Now THAT'S SERVICE! We love Cate's and we really should go more. Be sure to check out the Grove City mayoral election poster on the wall the next time you go.
Pros: Parking, Food, Service
Cons: It's small - go early on a Friday or Saturday night!

I just returned from a great anniversary dinner. My husband and I like to try local restaurants instead of doing the same old chains. I happen across Cate's listing today and thought we would give it a try regardless of what this Debbie had to say. Well, it was Monday evening and the staff consisted of a cook, a waitress and a delivery person. The waitress graciously took care of about 16 guest at about 6 tables, the cook kept busy and the delivery person was in and out with orders in a timely fashion. I couldn't have asked for a better meal served promptly without any hitches. They serve you a sampling of a bean soup, just for coming. The salad was fresh and crisp, the seasoned butter on the baked potato was delightfully different, and the steak was excellent. I had the NY strip for $13.99 My husband had the T-Bone for $15.99. He loved his but admitted that if he knew the strip was going to be so big he would have gotten that. We got a great meal at a reasonable price. We will certainly return to Cate's. I recommend Cate's if you're looking for a good meal without all the fuss.
