Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Caribbean and Southern cooking is served at the cozy restaurant that offers live music and a variety of desserts.
The best atmosphere in town. I have been in Columbus for three years and have found it to be a better city than I thought I must say that once I went to Brownstone I saw what the this city could be. The place reminded me of being in New York or D.C.. The food was great and service very good. The thing that makes the place is the food combined with the music. We ate upstairs and went downstairs to hear a very good band. The best thing about the evening was we did not get there until 11:30pm and were still able to eat from the main menu. This city needs more of that late night experince. I will be going to Brownstone on a regular basis.
A little skeptical about soulfood in columbus...Walked away impressed.. A little skeptical about soulfood in columbus...But we walked away impressed. This place has a great, easy going atmosphere, big selection of real soulfood (like I would know)..and great location (downtown Columbus)...Try the duck.
Pre-included gratuity. The bill comes with 18% gratuity already included and it's very easy to overlook it and "double-tip" the server by mistake. Theywould not take it out if you call them later asking them to take it out. The food and atmosphere was decent, but I would not go back for that reason.
What a Mistake!. We went to Brownstone on main with 6 people. We were put in a room all by ourselves on a upper level floor where our waitress rarely came around, and we couldn't order a drink without standing and waiting for the elevator, taking the elevator down and then back up. The food was rubbery and cold, and the bill was expensive for the bad food and bad service we endured. I think we would have enjoyed the atmosphere if we were in the general seating area, but the food was really really bad. Better off going to Flatiron or Braddocks for similar dishes.
Delicious food, great service - we loved it. The upscale Southern food at Brownstone is absolutely mouthwatering. Crispy mushroom spinach salad, fried catfish, blackened ribeye - all perfect. And the desserts from peach cobbler to creme brulee, you cant go wrong. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wine list and made a great recommendation. He knew all about the menu as well, but since everything is delicious it was hard to recommend just one thing. We never saw him until we needed him, and he would suddenly appear. The interior is hip - exposed brick walls, modern artwork - without sacrificing comfort, and the jazz music provides atmosphere without overpowering conversation. The restaurant draws a diverse crowd, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. We didnt venture downstairs to the jazz club, but will on our next visit. Which will be soon!
Love the atmosphere. Love the food, love the atmosphere, and love the service. Jazz on Saturday nights is awesome, though my suggestion would be to move the bar from its current site as it stops up the traffic from the entry door. Other than that, I adore this place!!!!!!.
No set hours!. Last night for the second time, we tried to visit this restaurant. Both times were within their stated hours, (in fact, more than two hours before they state they stop seating) and both times they were closed. Having owned a business, I know that it is hard to remain open when business is slow, however, if you aren't going to keep regular hours, why post them in the first place? We won't try again, and though I've heard good things about the food, I have to question how long they will be around if the management is this disrespectful of its patrons.
