Editorial Review for Cafe Mozart – by James Ellison
The Scene
A Clintonville fixture since 1995, Mozart Bakery's devoted customer support led to this outpost's opening in 2003. The Austrian "kava haus" aura is accented by a leisurely, unhurried approach to service. Live piano music fills the air most evenings, making this a fine place to pass the time.
The Food
The bakery items are distinctly European, and excellent; selections include pastries, petit fours, Black Forest cake, mocha tortes, cookies and croissants. A diverse selection of coffees, wines, and other beverages are available to sip on. Breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes are offered as well, including Hungarian goulash, quiches, sandwiches, schnitzels, spatzles and a salad bar, but none of these stand out as much as the baked goods.

I served a Mozart cake for my wifes Birthday. They boxed the wrong cake, a white cake, which was fairly old and dry. This was definitely not the chocolate cake we asked for or or expected. When I returned the remaining portion of cake the owner claimed this has never happened in 10 years of business and asked me bluntly "what do you want me to do?" I ended up with only a slice of chocolate cake in exchange for the remaining white. The owner refused a refund or store credit of any kind or amount. This will be my last $40.00 cake mistake with Cafe Mozart. I would not use them again.
Pros: Nice selection and quality.
Cons: Cafe level service.

Clearly the finest dining in all of Columbus! If you have traveled/lived in Europe, you will truly enjoy the Cafe Mozart Restaurants, for their ambiance and pleasantry. The owners are friendly, courteous and will 'plappern' german to your hearts content! Their pastries are the envy of every pastry shop in Columbus. During dinner there is live entertainment, generally an accomplished pianist. Their outdoor cafe's are in robust neighborhoods-excellent for people watching,a major European pastime. Their dinners are authentic Austrian/Bavarian dishes: Weinerschnitzel,Goulash,Apfelstreudle and Sauerbraten. And those mouth savouring,home-made tortes and pastries! Take a bicycle ride from downtown Columbus along the Olentangy River, through the University District, past Olde North Columbus and to the far side of the Union Cemetary Bridge. Take a right on the footpath through the Olentangy Commons that leads to High Street. At the gates, turn right and treat yourself, your guests or your family to an afternoon or evenning cafe delight. Tschuss und Gute Appetit!
Pros: read review
Cons: none
