York Steak House: An Antique and an experience – The last of it's kind, the York Steak House on Columbus is a quaint steakhouse.
Upon entering the place seems kind of dim. This is because when the restaurant was started back in the 70/80s the interior theme was that of a Tudor style building.
You're greeted by a decently priced menu board and then when entering the restaurant proper, you progress though a cafeteria style area with tableware, beverages, and desserts. In the dining area there are several booths tables, and a salad bar. The decor still true to the Tudor style and windowless to control the mood.
The food itself isn't terrible, but it's obvious that the grill marks on the steak didn't happen in the restaurant. Steaks are cooked on a large griddle, and are cooked to order. The sad part is that while griddle cooking steak is efficient, it does not impart the meat with much flavor, so for flavor you're supposed to sauce your steak. This might be okay for some, and not so okay for others depending on personal tastes.
The salad bar is a little sad. It's not bad but again, some of the stuff on there is obviously not as good as it can be.
It's honestly not a bad restaurant, but it could use some improvement in the quality of the food. However, in doing so, the selling point of being a "family steakhouse" might be injured, so it's a bit of a trade-off.
But it was an experience that I enjoyed immensely.
