Editorial Review for Columbus Metropolitan Library – by John Oklok

Overview
Seinfeld's right: The public library is like a childhood friend--they're both eager to please, so you can borrow anything they have and return it at your leisure. And in Columbus, with the public library that was rated tops in 1999 and No. 2 in 2000, we may have the best friend a city ever had.

Facts
While the exterior dates from 1904 and is only questionably welcoming, the interior is bright and airy. Artwork, often with a local theme, is distributed throughout the building. Coffee and pastries are available just outside the entrance. The main branch offers free Internet access at dozens of terminals. For music-lovers, CDs of everything from the sublime to "Christmas With Boxcar Willie" are available for borrowing. And in 2000, CML began offering DVDs to augment its vast video collection.

I don't know why anyone would pay to rent movies with a great library system like Columbus Public. Now if only all those who use the system could afford to support it....

Pros: cheap parking, huge AV section

Cons: waiting lists

The Grant Library surpasses any that I've seen in the entire nation ( I haven't been lucky enough to visit the one in New York) . I've been to Los Angeles and was extremely disappointed. I thought that if I were to conduct research, that would had been the place( but it wasn't), oh well.

Pros: On the busline, excellant selections, nice employees

Cons: none, noisy kids, none
