The Scene
This red and silver dining car literally appeared overnight in the Brewery District. The restaurant was actually constructed elsewhere then hauled to its current location, following in the tradition of `40s diners. It's still new and the dining room is smoke-free, so the environment is more sterile than its competition. The pre-fab shape of the space and the vintage furnishings are fun but there are almost no human touches in the decor, which defies the traditions of 1940s diners.
The Food
Basic and not bad. Sandwiches are hearty, salads are made with better lettuce than iceberg and omelets are tasty. The cooks are a little heavy-handed when buttering the toast, but a you can get a decent meal here for very little cash. The service was originally widely criticized because it was slow, but the wait staff has recently picked up the pace.

My wife and I have been here a number of times and have yet to be disappointed. From the 1/4 lb hot dog to the hungry man breakfast to the root beer float, it has a classic Americana look and feel that can't be beat. I think the negative reviewers must be competing restauranteurs. They have again changed their hours to 24 hours, and the wait staff is very personable. One member of the wait staff actually gave us an extra milkshake because (although we disagreed) they thought it was priced a little too high.
