Good, but not really Middle Eastern!. I noticed that all these reviews were quite positive. Not to detract from the glowing reviews provided but satisfied customers, I must warn everyone that this isn't real Middle Eastern food. At least not the kind you'd find in authentic restaurants that really are Middle Eastern in places such as Egypt, large cities in Europe, or in Chicago or New York. Slapping together a healthy meal consisting of pitas and tahini-based recipes does not a Middle Eastern meal make. I talked to others of Middle Eastern background who have eaten there and they agree. If you want real Middle Eastern food, but say with a Turkish twist, try the Cafe Istanbul in Easton which is, to be fair, in a different class of restaurant and pricier, but is honestly one of the most authentic places to get this type of food in Central Ohio, complete with atmosphere and ethnic staff.
A Clintonville eatery making homemade Middle Eastern food that's so healthy, you'll feel compelled to raid the dessert case..
The Scene
This Clintonville eatery is small and quiet, with brightly colored round sculptures hanging from the high ceiling. Despite the healthy vibe of the menu, there's a huge case of cakes and tortes near the front door.
The Food
The dishes contain fresh vegetables and meats, with no additives, artificial sweeteners or sulfites. Soups are starch-free and salad dressings are fresh. Much of the menu is based on chewy wheat pitas; laid flat they're "Pitzas," topped with chili, falafel, vegetables, beef, chicken and savory sauces and dressings. Quartered, they're used to dip into homemade hummus, baba, and, a warm and garlicky fava bean dip. There are freshly squeezed juices and smoothies and a limited but eclectic selection of beer and wine.
Inexpensive and high quality..
Aladdin's is a great place for an inexpensive but still very tasty meal. Most of the entrees seemed to be in the sub-$10 range. Appetizers were in the $5-7 range. Wine was available for $20-30 a bottle or around $5 per glass. Try the house wines, we tried one of the reds and it was great.
The food is wonderful - light and flavorful. I had the lamb plate, which was filling but not overly so. We also had falaffel, which was nicely made and very light, an appetizer with grape leaves, rice, and chick peas that I unfortunately can't remember the name of, and chicken damusek (sp?) which was very flavorful without being overwhelming.
Service was good, if a bit slow at times. They gave you plenty of time to enjoy your meal, though. They weren't trying to rush you through like some places do.
Fresh food. My wife and I eat frequently here. The vegetables are always very fresh. Menu seems big, but many of the items are the same thing repeated with a slight variation. Smoothies are very good, and even the Lebanese wine is surprisingly good. This place offers the best VALUE in Columbus.
Great Food and Great Service!. Their salads are fresh, dressings homemade -- both served by a friendly, service-oriented staff. Their menu items provide incredible value for the price... not to mention the portion size!
Great Food. Great Food and the service is the best expecially at the Grandview Ave location. the Manager named Randy always makes sure your taken care of and that your comfortable. With all that and the price being reasonable you can't go wrong.
10 Vegan Heaven.
Aladdin's Eatery in Clintonville and Grandview Heights are owned by George. We have entertained several times in 2002 and everyone that came to the party loved the menu. I have never been disappointed with the staff. We have had upwards of ten adults that were happy with the food selections. Vegans, meat eatters or dieters all have a large selection on the menu. Good parking in Clintonville and fair in Grandview
Hgts.. Wonderful drinks, too!! Good clean restrooms. Friendly managers and staff people.
Aladdin's is pure magic. Going to Aladdin's is always comforting because the food, service, and atmosphere are all consistently excellent. The food is healthy and well-prepared, the staff knowledgeable and friendly on sharing more about the menu to those uninitiated to the wonders of Middle Eastern cuisine, and the atmosphere is perfect for conversation without having to battle with others talking around you. For once you can enjoy the company of both your carnivorous and vegetarian friends in the same place, since the menu has great selections for all, and the desserts will add the perfect ending to your meal.
Magical Middle Eastern. Aladdin's always delivers -- reliable, delicious, fast and inexpensive, its tasty dishes never miss.
