Editorial Review for Restaurant Hama – by Kae Denino
The Good News
You won't get a bad meal here. Between courses, the chef offers teeny combinations of cucumber, salmon and avocado.
Don't Miss
Order the seared tuna salad, the deep fried calamari with asparagus and the fresh wasabi sauce. For dessert, have the glazed bananas in chocolate sauce.
The Decor
Modernist, sleek, slick, silver and beige with bright lighting. It sure feels sterile. This place is great, but too darn bright.
Shy About Sushi? Start off by ordering yellowtail, salmon or tuna, which are all rather mild. You'll receive a diminutive rectangle of rice with a sliver of fish on it. Imagine it's cheese and crackers, and go for it. You may surprise yourself by liking it.
The Service The servers wear shirts with pieces of sushi all over them. "Kampai! Kampai!" They cheer each other and drink Asian beers. Patrons are hounded with goodwill, exuberantly encouraged to eat and given impressive wooden inlay chopsticks in straw cases with little wooden rests.

After restaurant Hama changed ownership a year or so ago, the food and service got better if not great. I tried almost all the sushi restaurants in Columbus and this one has by far the freshest fish and friendly and knowledgeable staff. They recently added a patio too! They have an extensive menu with both japanese and korean dishes. Place is clean and romantic. The scotty rolls, kalbi, and hibachi are some of my favs. This place makes me keep going back for a reason.
Pros: Fresh fish, great food, friendly staff
Cons: None so far

Really liked the shusi here! The food was well worth the price too. I ordered from the menu shusi bar and got the samon, tuna, and california rolls. The meal came with soup, salad and there were 6 of each of the different rolls! I could not eat all of it. Price was only $13. Service was okay. . . I would have to agree with the other review I read, the waitress came with the bill right away and didn't ask if we wanted anything else. Though if you are in a rush this could be a good thing.
Pros: Great food
Cons: Rushed service
