Editorial Review for Studio 35 Cinema – by Karen Sottosanti
History Lesson
In this age of multiplexes, Studio 35 is a classic. It opened in 1938 as the Indianola Theater and is one of only three theaters remaining from those days. In 1995, the theater passed from longtime owner Frank Marzetti, who screened second-run films, to current owner John Conti.
The Films
Conti soon dropped the second-run programming for almost-new releases. This year, he's paired recent releases with cult films (i.e. "Gladiator" with "The Road Warrior"). Conti recently announced that Studio 35 would close by fall if business didn't improve; since then, audiences have grown.
The Setting
One of the theater's charms is its lounge area, where moviegoers can smoke while watching the film through a large window. Since the demise of Flickers, Studio 35 is the only place in Columbus--besides Easton's Planet Movies--that serves beer, pizza and subs (ordered from Papa Joe's down the street).

I love this theatre but for one important issue – the sound quality. It is so poor that you can’t understand any of the dialogue (especially if it is an action movie with loud effects). Also, it is in serious need of remodeling. Some of the seating is newer, but the walls are covered with old, moldy murals and falling plaster. Go for the pizza and beer, but not the movies.
Pros: Food / beer
Cons: Lousy sound.

This is such a great theater that has wonderful character. The price is less than the big chain theaters and you can order food and sit at a table or at the bar while you watch the movie! Check it out!
Pros: Inexpensive, uncrowded, tables
Cons: seats aren't on a slope, so you can't see if someone sits in front of you.
